Using Cricut Design Space to Trim Iron-On Transfers
Materials:
- Standard Iron-On Transfers for either Dark or Light fabrics
- Siser TTD High Tack Mask, or any sort of heat-stable transfer/carrier to keep your image parts aligned.
- Cricut Light Grip Mat
Settings:
- Set your Cricut to its standard "Paper" setting.
- Set your iron to "Cotton", or your Easy Press 2 to 400F.
Technique:
- Before uploading your image, decide which of the blank parts around and inside the image need to be removed, and which can stay.
- When you upload your image to Design Space, upload it BOTH as a Cut image AND a Print then Cut image.
- Select both the Cut and Print then Cut images and load them into Design Space.
- Use Cricut's shapes and the Slice and Weld tools to remove any tiny holes, and to even out the edges of the Cut image.
- Send the Cut image to the back.
- Align the Cut and Print then Cut images both horizontally and vertically.
- Use the Flatten tool to attach your simplified cut lines to your Print then Cut image.
- Do a paper test before using the much more expensive iron-on transfers. Remember to turn "Bleed" to OFF, and to mirror ONLY if you are using clear iron-on (i.e., iron-on transfers for Light Fabrics)
- Let the transfer dry and cure as per the package instructions (anywhere from 1/2 hour to 24 hours).
- After cutting your iron-on transfer, weed it normally.
Additional Preparation for Dark-Fabric Iron-On
- Apply the High Tack Mask or transfer/carrier to your weeded iron-on transfer.
- Remove the original backing from your transfer.
For All Iron-On Transfers
- Position the iron-on transfer on your garment.
- Use your iron, EasyPress 2, or Heat Press to transfer your design to your blank.
- Follow package instructions regarding hot, warm, cool, or cold peels.
